Christine Robichon visits fishermen training centre

Christine Robichon, Ambassador of France to Cameroon went on a working visit in the Littoral in the company of several personalities of the region and Hervé Conan, the Director of the French Development Agency (AFD) based in Yaoundé in the central region.

The visit was to tour the facilities of the centre of training of young fishermen in the town of Bonamatoumbe 15 km from Bonaberi.

Christine Robichon expressed satisfaction with the fact that the centre enables learners to create jobs, for themselves and for others.

The training at the centre are provided at no cost and it lasts for two years. Trainees at the end acquire a combination of theory and practicals of the activities related to fishing and pastoral occupations.

According to the Director of the centre, Désiré Djock, 'learners produce fishing equipment that is tested on water bodies’.

Before leaving the training centre, Ambassador of France in Cameroon awarded a funding of 10 million CFA F in 36 major fishermen and 70 trained operators and activity, gathered by group of 5.

This special support is intended to help them to settle on the labour market or make viable economic activities that have already been created.

As a reminder, the centre of training of young fishermen is a project established in 2004 by the Ministry of fisheries, livestock and animal industries (Minepia) for the supervision of major fishermen and farmers.

It had to be completed in 2010, but for the intervention of France which decided to support the financing of the project through the debt contract development called C2D.
