China to support Cameroon against Boko Haram

The Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Cameroon, Wo Ruidi says his country opposes terrorism in all its forms and will support Cameroon government in the raging war President Paul Biya declared against Boko Haram militants in order to restore security.

The diplomat made the declaration in the Embassy in Yaounde on Tuesday, September 30, 2014 during celebrations marking the 65th anniversary of the foundation of the People’s Republic of China on October 1, 1949.

This was in the presence of the Cameroon government representative, Labour and Social Security Minister, Gregoire Owona, a host of other cabinet ministers, senior State dignitaries, as well as members of the diplomatic corps.

Cameroon and China, the Ambassador said have long standing friendly relations. China, he said, is ready to continue to support Cameroon attain its emergence dream by 2035.

Evaluating the fruitful bilateral cooperation, Wo Ruidi singled out China’s support to ongoing projects in Cameroon such as the Douala Obstetric Hospital and Limbe Stadium that are near completion, progress of work in the Kribi Deep Seaport project, pipe-borne water supply in Douala, technological advancement with the E-post project.

In terms of human resource development, the Ambassador disclosed that many Cameroonians benefit from Chinese scholarships and learn the Chinese language.

Talking particularly about China, the Ambassador said, the foundation of modern China in 1949 opened a new era to the country. He disclosed that despite the international economic down turn, China maintained its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth of 7.7 per cent in 2013 and the Chinese economy remains the second in the world.

The Chinese dream, he disclosed, was to double average revenue by 2020 and to build a more civilized, democratic and developed society when the 100 years of the foundation of modern China will be celebrated in 2049.
