After the 24 hour closure of the border which connects the capital of Chad, Kousseri, located in the Far North of Cameroon, Chad reopened the border which was closed on June 17, causing traffic on the Nguéli bridge.

The opening of the border was welcomed with relief by traders of the city, linking the decision of the Chadian authorities to the start of the fasting month of Ramadan for the Muslim community around the world.

According to sources, during the month of fasting, the Chadian people received their supplies mainly through the town of Kousseri. The closure of the border on the Nguéli Bridge would have been detrimental to Chadian Muslims who have been prohibited to wear the Turban (for men) and the Burka (for women) for easy identification.

Just as the closure of the border with Cameroon, the decision to ban Turbans and Burka is as a result of the double bomb attack in the morning of June 15, 2015 by four suicide bombers who exploded with their bombs.

The attacks, which left 33 dead and over 100 injured were attributed to extremist group, Boko Haram.
