Cavaye Djibril opens first annual session of Parliament

Traditionally, this first annual session is devoted to the renewal of the Bureau of the National Assembly.

However, given the current political context, marked by calls by CPDM militants, ruling political party, for Paul Biya’s candidacy and the early organization of the presidential election initially scheduled for 2018.

Some observers fear that the government will table in Parliament a draft law on amending the Constitution.
This reform is needed if Paul Biya, who has ruled the country for 34 years, wants to hold early presidential elections.
