The President of the National Assembly, Cavayé Yéguié Djibril, welcomed the Japanese ambassador to Cameroon on Thursday.

According to Kumio Okamura it was a courtesy visit he paid. Cavayé Yéguié Djibril and S.E. Kumio Okamura discussed the relations between the two countries.

"We talked in general about the state of cooperation between Japan and Cameroon," S.E. Kumio Okamura told reporters, adding: "Japan intends to continue this good bilateral cooperation."

On the Boko Haram issue, the Japanese ambassador said he had already had an occasion to express the solidarity of his country to the Cameroonian government, who according to him, is working hard to fight the Islamic sect. He noted that his country is preparing some form of support for people affected by the threat of Boko Haram. They include refugees, displaced Cameroonians, and municipalities affected by military assaults of the sect.

Arrived in Cameroon in June, S.E. Kumio Okamura presented the copies of his credentials to Foreign Minister on June 6, 2015. The meeting yesterday was therefore a step in the series of meetings he held with Cameroonian authorities since his arrival in our country.

Ambassador Okamura, who graduated from the Tokyo Law School, has spent much of his career with the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
