Canada 2015: USA becomes world champions

The United States has been anticipating this win for over four years with flashbacks of their defeat by Japan in the final of the Fifa Women World Cup, Germany 2011.

For their return at the same stage of the competition in Canada 2015, the Americans met their challengers on July 5 in Vancouver. And these four years of frustration disappeared in five minutes.

As an irony of fate, it was Carli Lloyd, who had missed her shot on a goal in 2011 but she made up for it on Sunday. Aya Miyama tried to remoblise her troops. But the hardest - and beautiful – was yet to come. Lauren Holiday sends a volley under the bar (14', 3:0), and Lloyd attempts the impossible from the centre. The lob was perfect. Yugi Ogimi finally played a shot which entered right into the net (27', 4:1). She returns a second time on a free kick by Miyama where Julie Johnston hit the ball with her head in the wrong direction (52' 4:2).

But just as the flame of hope was raised, Tobin played at point-blank range (54', 5:2), before leaving it for the legend, Abby Wambach. Wambach would therefore be proud that she participated in the victorious final which she had long dreamed of, four years after having cried.
