Cameroonian wins best young researcher in Sub-Saharan Africa

Biochemist at the University of Buea was rewarded for his research on molecules of medicinal plants could cure malaria. Dr. Denis Zofou, a Cameroonian under 40 years of age received the award for best young researcher in Sub-Saharan Africa organized by the Third world academy of sciences -regional office for sub-Saharan Africa (Twas Rossa), an institution based in Italy.

The scientist in service at the University of Buea was rewarded for his work on natural products based molecules which are used to treat malaria. The molecular biologist and his colleagues are working to make more effective plants that treat malaria.

The winner led two research projects a he works with traditional practitioners. Denis Zofou demonstrated that molecules in plants are not toxic and can destroy even the most resistant parasites. Dr. Zofou is the author of several articles citing problems as a specialty.

The Twa -Rossa is one of five regional branches of the Twa. Its main objective is the promotion of Twa activities in the region. It promotes scientific excellence and its scientific potential likely to bring development.
