Cameroonian soldiers in CAR forced to open a bank account each

Officials of MINUSCA have ordered "all the Cameroon military committed in Bangui (capital of the Central African Republic) for the mission against Boko Haram to have bank accounts each, according to La Nouvelle Expression newspaper.

“Their salaries will henceforth be sent directly to these accounts,” revealed the newspaper which expects the measure will put an end to the long discredited diversions.

“This will mark an end to the money issues set aside for those men who risk their life in a field of war. These practices had long been denounced for the management of premiums of the military in Bakassi. And even today, troops of the grande muette fighting against Boko Haram are sometimes forced to resort to strikes before those who manage their premiums and other supplies react.”

Highlighted for several months, through complaints by the Cameroonian soldiers, the senior ranks of the MINUSCA took advantage of the statement made in the Cameroonian contingent. They recommended the opening of bank accounts for its elements in Yaoundé.

Since 2008, more than 500 Cameroonian military are involved in the mission of peace building in the Central African Republic.
