The number of Cameroonian army generals has increased thanks to the decrees signed August 13, 2015 by the President of the Republic, Paul Biya. There are now 35 senior officers that lead national defense forces.

There were only 30 before the acts adopted on Thursday afternoon. The new generals are Dobekreo, Simon Ezo'o Mvondo, Jacob Kodji, Frédéric Djonkep and Valère Nka who complete a list already constituted of senior officers active or reserve in the Republic.

The last mentioned category is the second section of the general officers reserved. These are retired army officers that no longer intervene in cases of great necessity. These are Army General Peter Semengue, Army Corps General John Nganso Sunji and Oumaroudjam Yaya and Major General James Tabe Tataw.

Our colleagues in the daily Le Jour in their Friday edition noted that this new wave of promotions to the rank comes after the largest in 2011. "This is the largest wave of promotion of officers in the Cameroonian army with a dozen colonels and captains appointed on the same day. It is this promotion that made Major General Martin Tumenta Chomu, General Air Commodore John Calvin Momha, Brigadier Hypolite Ebaka, General Daniel Njock Elokobi, Brigadier General Mahamat Ahmed, Brigadier General Mohamadou Hamadiko, the rear-Admiral Jean Mendoua, Admiral Joseph Fouda, the rear-Admiral Jean-Pierre Nsola and rear-Admiral Pierre Njine Djonkam. Between 2011 and 2015, a total of 16 senior officers who are connected in rank have become generals or admirals."
