Cameroon takes back locality from Boko Haram

A report from Chinese news agency, Xinhua, holds that the Cameroonian military has recovered the border locality of Balgaram which was lost to the Boko Haram terrorist group towards the end of July.

Security sources who spoke to the agency revealed that the action took place in the morning of September 29. The Cameroonian military had been monitoring the area for hours, and made use of the opportunity they had to retrieve their territory from the hands of elements of the Islamic sect.

“Our elites have regained control of Balgaram after monitoring for hours the position of the enemy. That’s the fruit of a well prepared operation. The casualties on the Boko Haram side are heavy. On our part, a soldier was shot on the leg”, one of the army officials said.

Quoting official figures, the news agency revealed that during the July 24 attack, over 20 soldiers and gendarmes were killed in Balgaram, near Kano in Nigeria, the seat of the terrorist group.

Backed up by other soldiers and equipment, these forces have, for months, been committed to secure the national territory as declared by the Head of State, in a bid of putting an end to the terrorist attack which is particularly felt in the Far-North, border to Nigeria.

In line with the recovery of Balgaram, Fotokol, another locality in the region was, on the same day, at the centre of fire exchanges between the army and Boko Haram. At the end of the day, the terrorists fled back to Nigeria. For the moment, no accurate figures have been given as to the number of casualties.
