Cameroon soon to be connected to Republic of Congo

The Cameroonian government has indicated that the road linking Djoum in the South region of Cameroon to the Congo border, 215 km long, is 69 percent built and could be completed by the end of the year.

This operation is an integral part of the construction project of Sangmélima road (Cameroon)-Ouesso (Congo), presented as "the missing link in the inter capital Yaounde-Brazzaville."

The construction of this road aims to increase "exchanges of people and goods, ensuring better access of the population to social amenities, health, promote the fight against poverty, fighting rural exodus, and reduction in vehicle operating costs and travel time.”

The road Sangmélima-Ouesso has an estimated cost of 119,8 billion CFA francs (U.S. $ 182,634,000) mobilized by various donors such as the African Development Bank (AfDB), ABEDA, Islamic Development Bank (IDB), the Saudi Fund for Development and the Kuwait Fund.

The distance to be completed is 651 km long, 335 km in Congolese territory and 216 km in Cameroonian territory.
