Cameroon has intensified security at its border with neighbouring Nigeria to prevent more incursions from the Islamist sect, Boko Haram.

A score of attacks from armed Islamists Nigerians has been registered on Cameroonian territory since early September.

The Governor of Cameroon's Extreme North Region, Midjiyawa Bakari, reported seven attacks in less than a week, including two on Tuesday in Amchide, where Cameroonian troops killed at least 11 attackers; and Mora, where two kamikaze women were killed after the explosion of their bomb respectively.

Regional authorities fear new incursions from insurgents at the time when the Cameroonians are preparing to celebrate the feast of Tabaski.

While securing the borders reassures residents, it obstructs economic activities, Yaya Mboulé, a livestock seller told VOA.

The Muslim community takes precautions, said Imam Ibrahim Arouna of Garoua.

Boko Haram has intensified its attacks in Cameroon since the country launched a military campaign against the Islamist radical group. Nigerian insurgents use Far North Cameroon as a replenishing ground for supply and recruitment.

Cameroon counted some 20 attacks on its territory since early September; mostly targeted at markets, neighbourhoods and mosques.
