Cameroon is an electricity giant still on the starting blocks – Kedi

The Director General of the electricity regulatory agency (Arsel), Jean Pierre Kedi compares Cameroon to an 'electricity giant which is still on the starting blocks.

He made the illustration against the hydro-electric potential which the country posseses and if each of the 360 Cameroonian communes launches a project to produce only "10 MW through small waterfalls, be it by biomass", this would make more than trippled the capacity in a period of time. The current capacity of the country is 1000 MW.

Moreover, in appropriating the solar energy, for example, Cameroonian populations could significantly contribute to meeting the energy supply. "Everyone can buy solar panels and install them on their roof, have energy for himself and, when it is in surplus, re-inject it into the network. Having 1000 MW available and taking into account that there are 1 million consumers, if each consumer gave us 2 MW, it will be double what is available today," he said.
