Cameroon honours FAO Director

An official dinner for foreign guests was organized in honour of the Director General of the United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) at the Hilton Hotel in Yaoundé.

Philemon Yang chaired the ceremony in the presence of 60 other officials, including members of government, the Ambassador of Cameroon in Italy, Dominique Awono Essama, senior administration officials and representatives of organizations of producers. José Graziano da Silva was able to taste the culinary delights of Cameroon.

But before that, he listened to the Prime Minister, head of government, Philemon Yang, who conveyed a congratulations message on behalf of the president of the Republic, Paul Biya, for being re-elected this year as the head of this specialized organization of the United Nations system. He also hailed the increasingly close relations between Cameroon and FAO.

Philemon Yang welcomed the two agreements that were signed during the 72 hour visit of Mr. Graziano da Silva in Cameroon, including the sub regional headquarters agreement.

The Director General of FAO, which is known for the fight against hunger as a priority, congratulated Cameroon's efforts in this area, particularly in the context of achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

José Graziano da Silva reiterated the availability of FAO to assist Cameroon to completely eradicate hunger on its territory. At the end of the ceremony, Philemon Yang raised the visitor with the distinction of Grand Officer of the National Order of value from the president of the Republic.

The Director General of FAO received compliments from the audience with pride.
