Cameroon army frustrates Boko Haram attackers

The rebels were dislodged by the Cameroonian armed forces in Kerawa and Achigachia, during the Thursday clashes.

The Cameroonian army continues to put pressure on the assailants who have launched multiplied attacks recently on some border communities of Mayo-Tsanaga, Mayo-Sava and the Logone and Chari. Thursday, the Cameroonian military dislodged the insurgents of Boko Haram in the locality of Achigachia in Mayo-Tsanaga Department, says one source close to the Defence Ministry.

24 hours before this cleaning operation, the defence forces had violently pushed back the fighters who had besieged the town of Kerawa in the Department of Mayo-Sava. Thursday night, the Cameroonian army was poised to take over the town of Garkara from the hands of the members of the Boko Haram sect.

At Fotokol, the situation remains worrying with regard to the proximity of our military with the Islamists who took control of the two Nigerian cities Ngala and Gambaru, forcing the Nigerian regular army personnel and civilians to find refuge in Cameroon neighbouring towns.

Clashes between the Islamists and the Cameroonian defense forces continued until Thursday night. According to military sources, more than 30 attackers were killed. The Cameroonian army has reinforced its position at the level of Fotokol. To facilitate their actions on the ground, the Cameroonian defense forces asked the inhabitants of some towns to set up on the front lines.

Thousands of people from the communities of Mayo-Sava and the Logone and Chari (Karewa, Kolofata Limani, Amchide, Fotokol, Waza...) have set up at educational establishments of the city of Mora and districts in Maroua to allow defense forces to act without collateral losses. The Cameroonian army has strengthened its workforce and its weapons at its front lines.
