The Global Competitiveness Report published by the World Economic Forum carries little reassuring news for Cameroon for the 2014/2015 period.

According to La Nouvelle Expression newspaper on Tuesday 21 July 2015, Cameroon was on an average of 3.66 on a scale of 1 to 7 based on the country's affairs were managed. "Even though it is an average scale, the World Economic Forum stated that it is not enough to become happy about.”

The newspaper added that the organization based in Geneva, Switzerland creates its ranking by scrutinizing the systems in a country such as the institutional environment, infrastructure, macroeconomic environment, health and primary education, development, financial markets, innovation and technology.

Therefore Cameroon scored a 2.47 / 7 mark and 126th out of 144 in infrastructure and in the field of macro-economic environment, it was ranked 90th with a score of 4.45 / 7.

"Cameroon is in Category 1 which is the lowest and where countries with a basic level of development were classified," noted the newspaper.

Globally, the country placed 116th out of 144 other countries. In Africa, Cameroon ranked 14th after the leading trio; Mauritius, South Africa and Rwanda. These were followed by Botswana, Namibia, Kenya, Seychelles, Zambia, Gabon, Lesotho, Ghana, Senegal, Ivory Coast and then Cameroon.

"Out of all the 144 countries studied, Angola placed 140th, Chad 143rd and Guinea was 144th,” La Nouvelle Expression revealed.
