Energy infrastructure installation and transfer of technology are areas of cooperation registered in a forum held Tuesday in Yaounde to that effect.

Deepwater ports, hydroelectric dams, are many energy challenges facing the Cameroon. The Korean expertise in this area has attracted the Cameroonian government. It is in the perspective of energy cooperation between the two countries that a forum was held Tuesday in Yaoundé, the fourth Korea-Cameroon energy cooperation forum.

Among the officials present were the ambassador of South Korea, Jae-Hoon Lim and Minister of Water and Energy (Minee), Basile Atangana Kouna. For the occasion, the focus has been on energy supply prospects of the project of the deep water port of Limbe.

Indeed, the port will consist of industrial plants and other energy infrastructure including telecommunications necessary to the creation of an economic development hub in the host region. And according Basile Atangana Kouna, the activities that will take place there will need adequate energy supplies.

This forum comes within the framework of a series of regular events organized by the Korean Embassy showcasing Korean capabilities in the energy sector, among others, as well as discover the energy needs of Cameroon.

"This meeting is part of a proactive approach to identifying the energy needs of the future of deepwater port of Limbe in order to get possible solutions," explained the Minee. Experts from Minee and South Korea have identified all relevant areas of cooperation.

According to Ambassador Jae-Hoon Lim, these meetings come at a time when Korea and Cameroon combine their efforts to cooperate under Korean Economic Development Cooperation Fund to build the deepwater port of Limbe which, according to experts, will revolutionize transportation and stimulate the dynamic economic activity on the coast of Cameroon.

The final report of the study on the model port project reveals that in time, the circulation of agricultural products to the port will be increased to 50 000 T per year from 2017, before moving to 60 000 T in 2020.
