The government of Cameroon has signed an accord worth some FCFA 2 billion with the South Korean government to strengthen the renewable energy and communication sectors.

The Minister of Economy, Planning and Regional Development, Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi signed for the Government of Cameroon and the South Korean Ambassador to Cameroon, His Excellency Lim Jae Hoon signed for his government.

This agreement will ensure South Korea’s protection of the Cameroon electronic communication like government’s data system and energy resources.

On this backdrop, Cameroon will further benefit the transfer of advanced technology in the transformation of renewable energy resources and the improvement of her e-government that will favour security of government online documents.

Another fallout of this convention is the introduction of e-government programmes in some Cameroonian schools to be coordinated by South Korean experts.

The Minister of Planning and Regional Development expressed satisfaction with the already existing friendly ties between the two countries that have materialised in the educational, technical and social domains.

Accordingly, the South Korean Ambassador to Cameroon noted his government’s intent to accompany Cameroon in her sustainable development projects most especially in the socio-economic domain, an area he thinks will help fight poverty in Cameroon.

It is worth noting that, since 1977 South Korea has been one of the developmental partners in Cameroon and has notably constructed the Yaounde Emergency Centre, inaugurated few days back by the Prime Minister Head of Government, Philemon Yang.

A South Korea Agency in Cameroon, KOICA, has also carried out visible projects in Cameroon in the music and arts domain, scientific research and innovation, offered scholarships to Cameroonians to study in South Korea and has recently signed a convention with the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications to reinforce telecommunications in Cameroon.
