Cameroon/Chad: harmonisation of Communication against boko-haram

A common strategy to tackle the battle of communication against Boko Haram was the prime focus of the Chadian Minister of Communication’s visit to Cameroon- Hassan Sylla Bakari.

During the three day visit, Mr Hassan Sylla Bakari together with his Chadian delegation, were received by the Prime Minister and Head of Government Philemon Yang where the purpose of his visit was revealed in 30 minutes.

According to the Chadian Communication boss, the Prime Minister whom he termed as “rightly knowledgeable” is aware and well equipped on the issue of harmonization of communication.

In respect to this, Minister Hassan Sylla together with his counterpart Minister Isaa Tciroma Bakary, held a press conference to outline the importance of the treatment of information by journalists of both private and public media.

One of the ways to better treat information according to them is that journalists should avoid using words and rumours that can poison public opinion. Words according to Mr Sylla are delicate and so must be used as instruments of truth instead of destruction.

Both ministers agreed to set up a national strategic communication unit to monitor and coordinate information related to the war front and diplomatic issues within both countries.

Minister Sylla Bakari also visited some media houses and institutions in Yaounde remarkably SOPECAM and Muitations and the Higher training Institute at Siantou where he began his training as journalist.

Hassan Sylla Bakari, also lauded the efforts of some Cameroonian authorities who have been committed to put in place all necessary measures to ensure effective communication in this conflict and finally he expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Yang for the fair treatment he has enjoyed together with his delegation since their arrival to Cameroon.
