The Catholic University Institute of Buea (CUIB) has been entrusted with the mandate to run a Sports Academy.

This mandate will go a long way to fulfill one of CUIB’s philosophies which holds that a talent is a major aspect of the life of a student which must be harnessed.

Addressing visitors during the launching ceremony, the President of CUIB, Rev. Fr. George Nkeze congratulated the efforts of seasoned soccer coach John Mayebi and his team for working hard to realize the dream of opening the CUIB Sports Academy. Fr. George said the time they took to realize the Project was amazing stating that actions like this proves that CUIB is made of the “right people” and not just “people”.

The President highlighted that the CUIB Sports Academy has the finest coaches in Cameroon who will guarantee success in all its activities. Rev. Fr. George Nkeze announced to the public that, the Sports Academy will kick off with soccer while other sport disciplines would be developed in the near future.

Ngoe Roderick a student of the academy thanked the President of CUIB for embracing the vision of running a sports Academy, declaring that it is a great milestone in his life to be opportuned to develop his talents through a sports Academy manned by the best coaches in Cameroon. Adding his voice to Roderick’s, Coach Mayebi as he is fondly called said he feels elated by the success so far adding that the sports Academy is going to serve as a platform for talents to be modeled.

In a closing remark, the President drew from the Latin phrase “Mens sana in corpore sano" translated as "a sound mind in a sound body" to encourage everyone to take advantage of the facility and savvy of the coaches to develop their talents and become better entrepreneurs.

It is worthy to note that the CUIB Sports Academy was opened under decision number 1106/G.37/C.84/VOL II/ SAAJP of September 23, 2014, by the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education which gives the Academy the privilege to promote and develop sports among youths, participate in competitions organized by FECAFOOT as well as collaborate and sign partnerships to foster the development of sports.
