The official opening ceremony of the 60th Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Conference has brought to the limelight, the rich cultural diversity of Cameroon.

This cultural diversity was revealed through beautiful choreographic displays at the Yaounde Conference Centre, venue for the opening ceremony on 6th September 2014.

The Commonwealth Delegates were welcomed to the ceremonial grounds with rhythmic tunes and dances by twenty-one traditional dance groups from the Southwest, West, Centre and Littoral regions.

The varied dance groups contributed in presenting a united, yet diversified Cameroon, with over 300 ethnic groups.

Apart from home dances, visitors were thrilled with a performance by the University of Buea Choir, who elaborately presented a song with the rhythmic Afrikaans beat of the Republic of South Africa.

With the colour and beauty of the opening ceremony, the Commonwealth delegates experienced the meaning of Cameroon being “Africa in Miniature”, as they could be seen nodding their heads in admiration, while cheering and cheering the dancers on.
