CNDHL: The rights of the child are promoted and protected in Cameroon

Children Children

Thia was a satisfactory remark from the National Commission for the rights of man and freedoms (CNDHL), through a statement issued on the occasion of the commemoration of the 25th edition of the day of the African child, 16 June 2015.

The promotion and protection of the rights of the child in Cameroon are binding through inter alia: "the adoption of Act No. 2011/024, December 14, 2011 on the fight against trafficking of persons; free treatment against malaria for children 0-5 years; the distribution of treated mosquito nets with its impact now perceptible in the decrease in the number of diseases and infections related to malaria; the security measures taken to enable the continuation of school activities and the conduct of examinations in areas exposed to attacks by the Boko Haram sect and the Census of refugee children on the ground that resulted by the attribution of birth certificates".

The CNDHL also acknowledges "notable advances carried out by the State of Cameroon to achieve the objectives of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), particularly with regard to access to primary education for all (MDG N ° 2) and the reduction of child mortality (MDG N ° 4). However, the CNDHL regrets "the high number of early marriages and betrothal which are still permitted in some ethnocultural communities", and many other abuses still exercised on children in Cameroon.

As a reminder, this famous event in conjunction with other African nations was established by the Pan-African organization on July 18, 1990, in memory of the massacre of innocent children in Soweto in 1976 (575 deaths including 570 black, for some sources) by the racist regime of Apartheid in South Africa.
