CMR still has zero reported case of the Ebola Virus

The confirmation came from Dr. Zacharie Bissemou, at a media briefing held by the Ministry of health Friday, October 03, 2014 in Yaoundé.

It should be noted that Cameroon is in a pre-epidemic situation. The Ebola virus disease is present in DR Congo, Guinea Conakry, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Senegal and neighbouring Nigeria. According to figures provided by the World Health Organization (WHO), the Ebola fever caused 3330 death on near 7000 cases reported.

The Cameroonian Government has taken steps to prevent the virus from getting into the territory, including the closure of its border with Nigeria, the prohibition of flights originating or destined to infected countries, installing thermal cameras at international airports, the acquisition of equipment appropriate to manage possible cases, the establishment of specialised unit in the fight against the disease etc.

Groups at risk are workers, members of the families of infected people, hunters and bushmeat manipulators. The death of a patient usually occurs between the sixth and the sixteenth day if its support is not effective.
