CMR re-opens borders with Nigeria

This announcement made by the Ministers of public health and transport was made following the assurances from WHO that Nigeria has attained an Ebola free status.

Cameroon has decided to re-establish its sea and air links with Nigeria, border countries that had faced in its territory the presence of persons infected with the Ebola virus.

The information has been made public in a press release signed by Cameroonian public health and Transport Ministers and read on national public radio Thursday, October 30, 2014.

The Cameroonian Government's decision follows the assurances given on 20th October by the World Health Organization, on the control of the epidemic in Nigeria.

Despite the reopening of the border with Nigeria, the Cameroonian authorities indicate that checks will be carried out at the entry and exit gates of the country. The restriction of movements to and from Nigeria was taken August 14, 2014 by the Cameroonian Government, after a first case of Ebola occurred in Nigeria, a disease for which there is currently no treatment.
