CEMAC: towards the creation of a Community oil refinery

The members of the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa (CEMAC), are planning to build a large community refinery of oil over the next 15 years.

Composed with Cameroon, Congo, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Central African Republic (CAR) and Chad, the 2025 CEMAC Vision aims to create an economic and emerging area in this region.

According to an official report, to be profitable, a refinery should have a size above a critical level and the level of adequate equipment. This is a technical constraint for heavy industries, cement for example.

The three existing refineries in the CEMAC region (Gabon, Congo and Cameroon), and the fourth that is projected by Chad, are all small and not profitable.

According to the Commissioner of the study department, Research and Social Development, in charge of human rights and good governance, Jean Eudes Teya, "the issue of pooling means of production where refining means in the petroleum sector is an economic issue. If the scale reports are that it's better together and later each takes its share, well it would be illogical not to use that route. "

Moreover, funding of 1.5 billion CFA francs is announced, while the site of the project and its timing are ongoing reflections.
