CEMAC authorize free movement of citizens

The heads of State of the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa States (CEMAC) have decided to allow the free movement of citizens in the six countries of the sub-region, as per the final statement of the 12th ordinary session of the Summit of Heads of State held on Wednesday in Libreville.

"Nationals of the countries in CEMAC are allowed to travel visa-free, within the community, equipped with either biometric ID card, biometric passport, or the homologous CEMAC biometric Passport", said the press release.

The Summit, which took place in the Gabonese capital, gathered Theodoro Obiang Nguema of Equatorial Guinea and Ali Bongo Ondimba of Gabon, Denis Sassou Nguesso of Congo, Idriss Deby Itno of Chad. Presidents Paul Biya (Cameroon) and Catherine Samba Pandza (Central African Republic) were absent at this meeting.

The CEMAC Summit has however decided to abandon the project for the creation of a community airline, Air CEMAC. This was attributed to the difficulties in starting Air CEMAC hence heads of State, Government and delegation decided to renounce this project, according to the participants of the Summit.

At the end of the meeting in Libreville, Ali Bongo Ondimba of Gabon gave the rotating Presidency of the community to its counterpart in Equatorial Guinea, Theodoro Obiang Nguema.
