CAR drivers boycott Bangui - Douala corridor

Corridor Douala-Bangui Corridor Douala-Bangui

Central African truck drivers have stopped all activities on the Bangui-Douala corridor to protest against the growing insecurity on the route.

The movement took place on Thursday at the corridor, mostly used by Central African drivers, to transit goods for import and export.

The movement by CAR truck drivers on the Cameroonian road is likely to cause the shortage of goods in CAR's capital especially and the country as a whole.

Insecurity on the Bangui-Douala corridor used by Central African as well as Cameroonian truck drivers has been termed it as the “corridor of death” by the drivers.

The drivers denounced the vandalism, attributing it to locals located along the road and poor escort trucks provided by the Bangladeshi contingent.

Truckers now feel it is too risky to venture down the road where many of their colleagues have lost their lives.

The truckers' union has decided to continue its movement until appropriate solutions is found not only by government, but also peacekeepers who secure the road plied by thousands of trucks on a weekly basis.
