CAMRAIL strengthens its security measures against terrorism

The Cameroon Railways (CAMRAIL) has announced the acquisition of more than 100 metal detectors its networked stations to strengthen measures against possible terrorist attacks.

This acquisition came days after the suicide attacks in Fotokol and Maroua (Far North) on July 22 and 25, attributed to Islamic sect Boko Haram, which killed 34 people and left 117 injured, according to official figures.

At the same time, the operator, a subsidiary of the French Bolloré Africa Logistics and claiming the conveying of 1.5 million passengers and 1.650 million tons of cargo per year, has introduced a systematic search of luggage at stations.

Through a campaign themed "to make a journey by train, as a pleasant and safe means of transport in Cameroon", CAMRAIL also revealed an increase in its staff at the boarding control, awareness and vigilance committees installed along the shoreline, a permanent information process for rail users and the accompaniment of the action of law enforcement forces.
