Burqa- Muslims become victims of harassment

The compliance of the measures to the ban on the full veil, by all, in certain regions of the country is causing a rise in abuse.

"When I walk on the road and I meet men in uniform, they ask me to remove my veil," complained Ayi, a Muslim girl.

Since the ban on the full veil, Muslim girls and women consider it to be harassment. "Civilians have recently t ordered me to remove my veil, while asking me if I was hiding a bomb," said another Muslim in Tsinga, Yaoundé.

In the opinion of observers, these 2 cases sums up the list of Muslim girls and women who suffer the misinterpretation of a security measure.

"Many of us no longer permit our wives, daughters and sisters to go out in the streets for fear of being brutalized" said Abdullah Atangana of Tsinga Islamist complex. At the heart of trauma, the Imam saw misunderstanding between the full veil and simple veil.

"The administrative authorities of the country have asked that women should not cover their face," said the Imam.

In essence, "the full veil, called the burqa, is a garment that fully covers the head and body, with a small opening that allows the wearer to see without being seen. It is different from a simple hijab or veil, which bares the face," said the Imam.

The Burqa was used as grounds by Boko Haram, to carry suicide attacks, who were gaining ground in Chad and Cameroon, wearing the full veil was gradually banned in parts of Cameroon in mid-July 2015.

The ban was a measure taken to protect Cameroonians from attacks by the Islamic sect. The application of this measure is causing a problem. This calls for the need to educate people so that it does not cause confusion which would lead to stigmatization.
