Buea Urban MP, Lisinge signs pact with ‘Basic Education Family’

Honorable Arthur Ekeke Lisinge has promised to give his all to the basic education sector in the Buea Urban Constituency during his mandate. He told The Sun he’ll also concentrate his efforts to uplift the social life of the population.

Buea Urban Constituency’s Member of Parliament signed a gentleman pact with the basic education family and with the population of Buea Urban, Wednesday, August 13, 2014. This was during a ceremony at the premises of the Cameroon OIC Buea reserved for the donation of desks and stationery to 15 government nursery schools and 30 government primary schools.

Lisinge handed over 100 desks to 10 government primary schools. The head teachers of the various government nursery and primary schools who did not receive desks were given cartons of chalk, card boards, and bold markers among others.

“I identified the basic education sector as the focus of my activities because I believe that empowering the children of today will guarantee a good future for our tomorrow. Knowing as it were the difficulties in starting the school year, I decided to assist these schools by giving them this minimum package,” Hon. Lisinge said. Amidst deafening plaudits and ululations, Hon. Lisinge announced that “…in the course of my mandate, I’ve decided to sign a pact with the basic education family. It will be the sure focus of my mission. This occasion will hence become yearly.”

“What you can be certain of is that all government nursery and primary schools will receive gifts from me before my mandate runs out. You shall see more of me. Head Teachers who need classrooms, didactic material, and desks among others should let me know in writing so that I can take the file to Yaounde for the necessary lobbying,” the Member of the National Assembly for Buea Urban Constituency said. The donations worth over FCFA 3 million has been described by officials of the basic Education Family in Buea Urban as a “rescue package”.

Clara Ngomba, Head Teacher of Government Practicing School Great Soppo Group II said government support to primary schools is “very small and is often made available very late”. “Government nursery and primary schools lack equipment. We in Buea Urban thank Honorable Arthur Ekeke Lisinge for the didactic materials and desks. It will go a long way to ensure success in the education of our children. We also thank Buea Council for its support,” Clara Ngomba said. Magdalene Limunga Lisinge, Inspector of Basic Education for Buea added her voice to that of George Singe, Fako divisional delegate for basic education to thank Honorable Lisinge for honouring the basic education family.

Paul Kouam Wokam, Divisional Officer for Buea described the donations worth over FCFA 3 million as timely, given that it comes at the eve of school reopening. Political and local administrative authorities like Hon. Fritz Etoke Ngeka, Member of Parliament for Fako East Constituency and John Lyonga Efande, 2nd deputy Mayor of the Buea Council, among others attended the ceremony.

At the end of the better-late-than-never outing, Hon Lisinge said “…apart from the basic education sector, we shall be looking at the Health Sector, refurbish some of our clinics in the days ahead. Generally, we shall be dealing with the social sector in the course of our mandate.”
