Boko Haram war: Diaspora contributes FCFA 79mln

Figures of contributions by Cameroonians living abroad were released by the Ministry of External Relations on Friday, April 29, 2016.

Cameroonians living abroad have heeded to President Paul Biya’s call for a general mobilisation against the terrorist group, Boko Haram. Cameroonians in Egypt, Switzerland, South Africa, China, France, Congo-Brazzaville, Senegal and Equatorial Guinea have made contributions worth FCFA 79,340,388 to support Cameroon’s Defence Forces and war victims.

Releasing the updated figures to Cameroon Tribune on Friday, April 29, 2016, the Director of the Division of Cameroonians Living Abroad, at the Ministry of External Relations, Mrs Tasha Mbur Anna Baninla said the laudable patriotic gesture was evidence that Cameroonians abroad remained close to issues affecting the life of the State.

According to the statistics, Cameroonians resident in Switzerland made the largest contribution amounting to a total of FCFA 37,505,000 while their compatriots in China followed with a contribution of FCFA 11,312,680. Meanwhile, Cameroonians in Equatorial Guinea made contributions in-kind worth FCFA 8 million. This included rice, sugar, vegetable oil and mineral water, amongst others.
