Boko Haram: The EU donates EUR 700 000 to help child victims

The funding of 700,000 euros granted by the European Union (EU) to the United Nations childhood Fund (Unicef) comes in addition to other funding of 500,000 euros previously granted in 2012 by the EU under the programme; "The children of peace", after receiving the Nobel peace prize award.

According to the private daily Mutations, which recounted the information on its Wednesday 12 August 2015 edition, the second funding that UNICEF Cameroon benefits from Monday, August 10, 2015 aims at the improvement of the educational problems faced by refugee children Nigerian and Cameroonian populations affected by insecurity along the border with Nigeria now on permanent display at the onslaught of the fanatics of the terrorist group Boko Haram.

The press release disclosed that the money received will specifically allow UNICEF to ensure that more than 31,000 children with almost 15,000 girls, continued access to quality education in the region of the far North. 14,000 Nigerian refugees in the Minawao camp and 17,000 Cameroonian children minors enrolled in 25 schools home in the departments of Logone and Chari, Mayo-Sava and Mayo-Tsanaga will also benefit from the impact of this funding.

Another part of the money will allow UNICEF Cameroon to establish a lives frameworks known as ‘Etape’ (temporary spaces for learning and child protection) with the aim of ensuring ''a sure learning course in a protective environment, while receiving psychosocial support. "

To carry out these projects, UNICEF intends to involve some 253 teachers who will be trained on the promotion of peace and social cohesion, the detection of the needs of psychosocial support, accelerated programmes, the prevention of discrimination and stigma, and centered participatory methods on the child, according to the aroused release, in which it is mentioned that 60 people will be also trained for the animation of the areas of protection; all of these initiatives that began July 1 expires in June 2016.
