Given the security situation in the Far North, a target of terrorist attacks by the Islamist sect Boko Haram in the three border departments (Mayo-Sava, Mayo-Tsanaga, Logone-et-Chari) with the Borno State in Nigeria, the new Minister in charge of Defence (MINDEF), Joseph Beti Assomo, has visited the region.

The Mindef chaired an important meeting with military officials of the Fourth Joint Military Region (RMIA4) of Maroua.

The meeting took place behind closed doors at the command post of RMIA4 in the presence of the army corps general, Rene Claude Meka, Chief of Staff of the armed forces and other senior military officers.

According to Colonel Didier Badjeck, the Mindef has taken note of the situation on the ground, after the first round of assessment at the administration level in Yaounde.

Major General Jacob Kodji, Commander of RMIA4 special unit highlighted the situation to the Minister Joseph Beti Assomo. Second, the Mindef also visited the command post of the Logone operation based in Maroua where the Cameroonian and Chadian soldiers are working closely together to stem the terrorist threat of Boko Haram. Note that the RMIA combines two solely Cameroonian operations, called Emergence 4 and Alpha.

Beyond making contacts with the military leaders of the Far North, the visit also allowed the Mindef to get a general idea of ??devices deployed against the Islamist sect Boko Haram.

The other highlight of the first day of the Mindef in Maroua is the courtesy visit to the Lamido of Maroua, Bakari Bouba, to solicit the support of the traditional authorities of the Far North in the fight against Boko Haram.

At all stages, the Mindef was accompanied by the governor of the Far North region Midjiyawa Bakari, and other administrative authorities of Maroua. The day's programme includes the October 27 raid on the grounds of operations, the effect of galvanizing the troops in the towns of Kousseri and Mora.
