Boat capsizes at sea; seven missing

Seven people are reported missing after a boat belonging to the Cameroon Navy capsized while crossing the Atlantic Ocean.

The incident happened on Thursday night near Tiko village (Southwest) which is the base for the Navy of the national army.

According to investigation, the boat of the Navy base at Tiko was heading to Malabo, Equatorial Guinea's capital, carrying 27 people: 13 crew members and 14 passengers. It capsized at sea, on Cameroonian territory.

The intervention of the Rapid Intervention Battalion (BIR) and other Cameroonian weapon units helped rescue 20 passengers while seven others are still missing.

"The investigation continues despite a bad weather due to heavy rains on the Cameroonian coast," said an official of the Naval base.
