Biya will not be present at the swearing-in of Buhari

President Paul Biya has disclosed that he will be absent at the swearing-in of the newly elected President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari and has appointed the Vice Prime Minister, Amadou Ali to represent him at the ceremony.

President Biya who declined after 24 hours of receiving the invitation was supposed to have joined other several Heads of State from around the African continent to grace the May 29, 2015 inauguration.

The Organizing Committee of the swearing-in ceremony of Muhammadu Buhari said all 54 Heads of State in Africa, had each received an invitation.

Meanwhile the Heads of States invited will first land in Douala before moving to Nigeria’s capital, Abuja where the event will take place.

On Thursday, May 28 authorities in the city of Douala, mobilized to accommodate the late morning arrival of James Wani, the South Sudan Vice President and Hassan Sheikh Mohamud the government head in Somalia.

Later in the afternoon on that same Thursday, the President of the Republic of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta arrived but spent only a few hours at the Douala International Airport before continuing his trip to Nigeria.

Even though there are disagreements on the strategies to fight the Islamic sect, Cameroon and Nigeria have for the past year joined forces in the war against Boko Haram.

The coming to power of Mohammadu Buhari has generated a lot of hope among the public who are threatened by the terrorists.

Buhari defeated Goodluck Jonathan in the elections held in Nigeria on March 28.
