During his press conference this weekend in Yaounde, Issa Tchiroma Bakary, Cameroon's Minister of Communication returned to the debate on the legitimacy of President Biya-an issue currently being debated by the French parliament.

French members of parliament in a report had revealed that the Head of State of Cameroon His Excellency President Paul Biya, is "illegitimate". Issa Tchiroma noted that such statements are "allegations to which no journalist and Cameroonians should pay interest to."

Minister Tchiroma said "His Excellency Paul Biya was brought to the presidency by a democratic mechanism, the only valid in any state of law, that is to say the free choice expressed by the people, holder of national sovereignty".

Cameroon government officials have intimated that Biya was elected in compliance with the standards prescribed by the Basic Law which is the Constitution of Cameroon. Issa Tchiroma added that the Cameroonian head of state is a perfectly legitimate president and enjoying the support and the accession of his countrymen to his political project as well as his vision for Cameroon.

Issa Tchiroma concluded that "President Paul Biya will therefore remain President of the Republic and Head of State of Cameroon as Cameroonians want it to be so beyond 2018". Paul Biya, 82 and almost 33 years in power acceded to the presidency on November 6, 1982, succeeding "constitutionally" the late President Ahmadou Ahidjo.
