Biya reorganizes army

President Paul Biya has signed decrees aimed at re-structuring the country’s military system with the reinforcement of its security presence in Adamaoua, the Far-North targeted by the Nigeria-based Islamist sect Boko Haram.

New units have been set up as well as paramilitary commands especially in the north, according to a statement read on national radio on Thursday.

The re-organization of the Central African defense system comes a few hours after fresh attacks in Bonderi by suspected members of the extremist sect.

Several Cameroonian soldiers were killed in fighting with Boko Haram elements.

Eleven soldiers were taken hostage by the sect.
