Biometrics Election: ELECAM signs an agreement with a German company

A cooperation agreement was signed between Elections Cameroon (ELECAM), the body responsible for managing elections and referendums and the German company, Veridos, for the maintenance of the National Electoral biometrics center equipment and regional hub, official sources told APA on Friday.

For a period of 18 months, this agreement will enable the transfer of technology between engineers and technicians of the service provider and their Cameroonian colleagues to ensure the progressive succession of the first by the second.

Equipment covered by this partnership will aid the conservation and security of the constituent databases of the electoral roll, its grooming considering radiation and address changes, eliminating duplicates and the production of voter cards .

The parties also expect an exchange of partners in order to increase technological innovation in the context of the management of the electoral process in Cameroon.

Before this agreement, ELECAM signed a maintenance contract of biometric equipment and technology transfer with the German Giesecke und Devrient technical partner in late August 2014, which assists the Cameroon government in the implementation of biometrics in its electoral system since 2012.
