Bamenda: 2015 AIDS-free holiday launched

The Governor of the North West Region, Adolph Lele Lafrique has launched the 2015 edition of the HIV/AIDS free holiday campaign in Bamenda.

The campaign was launched on Tuesday 11th August 2015, with 157 peer educators assigned to roll back the 6.3% HIV/AIDS prevalence in the North West Region through education and sensitization.

Governor Adolph Lele Lafrique called on the peer educators to convert their kind to abstinence, fidelity and the use of condoms.

The North West Regional coordinator of the HIV/AIDS technical control group, Tayon Gladys encouraged the young people to do HIV screening test to know their status.

She emphasised that the anti-retro viral drugs reduce the chances of contamination by the HIV virus and other sexually transmitted infections by 90%.

Experts called on the peer educators to lay much emphasis on young girls between the ages of 15 and 24 years who are considered the most expose and vulnerable group.

The local peer educators will move into the different neighbourhood to sensitize the public on the importance of knowing their HIV status.
