A detachment of the Groupement Polyvalent d’Intervention de la Gendarmerie Nationale (GPIGN, elite unit) has killed 15 suspected rebels, 15 kilometres from the border with the Central African Republic.

Their bodies were presented to the press, as proof, at the legion of gendarmerie of the East in Bertoua, the capital of Cameroon's Eastern Region.

Welcoming a “victory from the defense forces in the fight against terrorism and organized crime", the Governor of the region, Samuel Dieudonné Ivaha Diboua justified this "mass killing" which occurred in Nguire by the fact that the bandits "failed to comply" with the demands of the defense forces.

According to the official sources, the attack was based on the arrest of their members, arrested a few days ago.

Alerted by their partners in the grips of the police, the bandits opened fire on the defense forces whose response will have been fatal for the band.

"We are convinced that these people would have simply been presented to the Prosecutor of the Republic, which would have opened an investigation if they had laid down their arms," said the Governor of the East on national radio.

Thus, the exposed body carried amulets, alongside their weapons, homemade bombs, phones, as well as Indian hemp.
