Army acquires drone for the fight against terrorism

Drone Drone

The Cameroonian army has been equipped with a drone to help in the fight against Islamic sect, Boko Haram, according to Flightglobal on September 30, 2015.

The magazine, specialized in Aeronautics affairs, informed that Cameroon joins Kenya and Pakistan to make up three countries being recently equipped with drones.

According to Flightglobal, this acquisition by the country is from the U.S. Department of Defense amounting to US $ 9.36 million which is slightly more than 4.5 billion FCFA.

Drone is a small electronic device in the shape of an aircraft. Remote controlled, it serves specific tasks such as monitoring the battlefield, the tactical reconnaissance at high altitude or electronic warfare. This drone will be a great support for the Cameroonian defense forces in the war against terrorism.

With this technology, the country sends a strong signal to the former group Boko Haram, which recently became Islamic State of West Africa. The army aims at finally ending the asymmetric warfare that has resulted in the death of hundreds of people, civilians and soldiers alike and caused the displacement of thousands of others, barely a year ago.

This good news for the soldiers at the front is that they will be able to target, from a distance, the traits of the terrorist group; particularly in areas difficult to access.
