Application of OCSG suffers lack of structural reforms

The implementation of the Strategy Document for growth and employment (OCSG) in Cameroon suffers from a lack of 'structural reforms' in several areas, according to the observation made by the members of the Triennial Interdepartmental Committee for follow-up and evaluation.

At a meeting on Thursday in Yaounde, the capital of the country, they particularly pointed the sectors of the economy, climate Affairs and justice, and stated that these sectors required "a boost".

These reforms are urgent, "if Cameroon wants to go towards a two-digit growth rate", said the Secretary General of the services of the Prime Minister and Chairman of the Committee, Louis Paul Motaze.

Roger Mbassa Ndine, independent auditor expert in charge of the evaluation, also deplored the slowness in the implementation of those reforms which alone can ensure a sustainable growth of the country.

According to him, "the main weak point is the first three years of the OCSG" before suggesting the launch of priority projects like infrastructure, energy, transport, information and communication technology and water.

Other priority sites, from his point of view, relate to the competitiveness of production companies, to urban modernization so that the Cameroonian cities offer pleasant living environments.

Launched in 2009, the OCSG aims to create good conditions for the emergence of Cameroon by 2035.
