Activists of the political party, Croire au Cameroun (Crac) which means ‘Believe in Cameroon’, were led by the peasant leader, Bernard Njonga, to disrupt the opening of the national forum on GMOs by the Ministers.

The Ministers present at the disrupted meeting were Ministers of Mines, Industry and Technological Development; Communication; Public Health; Agriculture and Rural Development as well as Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries.

Benard Njonga joined the GMO antis, a coalition of the Cameroonian civil society, which includes the RELUFA (a network against hunger), Saild (Support Service for Local Development Initiatives), ACDIC (Citizens Associations of Defense of Collective Interests) and Action Paysanne to stop the meeting.

The aim of the event was to say "No" to GMOs, "our message was delivered. We want to inform decision-makers that we are against GMOs on our plates and in our fields. This is a danger for our agriculture, consumer health, the environment,” warned Bernard Njonga of CRAC.

To support his position, the agricultural engineer and renowned advocate for farmers, based his arguments on the results of scientific research showing harmful effects of GMOs; growth retardation, cancer, immune deficiency, stomach bleeding, pollution water and air.
