Ali Bongo suspends visit to Cameroon

The Gabonese head of state, Ali Bongo Ondimba, has suspended his visit to Cameroon and will instead visit N'Djamena in Chad for bilateral talks with the Chadian president, Idriss Deby Itno.

The spokesperson of the Presidency of the Republic, Alain Claude Bilié By Nze, made this known at a press conference on Thursday.

"The Gabonese president desired to go to Cameroon but his tripo has been postponed to a later date following the expected visit of the French president, François Hollande," explained Mr. Alain Claude Bilié By Nze. The exact date of this trip is not yet known

During this trip, Ali Bongo Ondimba will again represent the president of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) to discuss topics on the fight against the Islamist sect, Boko Haram, which attacks Chad, Cameroon and two other member states of ECCAS.

Ali Bongo Ondimba will also talk about peace and security in Central Africa. The discussion on reforms institutions of ECCAS will be another major focus of this meeting.

On May 25, the head of the Gabonese State took the rotating Presidency of ECCAS at the 16th ordinary ECCAS Summit which was held in Ndjamena in Chad. He succeeded Idriss Déby Itno.
