Albatros Case: Judge Wanki remains in office

Special Criminal Court Special Criminal Court

The challenge brought by the accused Jean Marie Atangana Mebara in the Albatros case has had no positive response.

The trial continued with the same team: Richard Wanki as president of collegiality, Judges Michel Ako and Zakyatou Alioum Hayatou as members. This was decided by the Special Criminal Court (TCS). Thus rejecting the complaint filed by the accused, Jean Marie Atangana Mebara, former Secretary General of the Presidency of the Republic.

Richard Wanki presided over Tuesday's hearing even though Jean Mebara absented himself on July 20 hearing. At the opening, the president of the collegiate asked the accused if he had been informed of the outcome of his application. The accused, Jean Marie Atangana Mebara, nodded without making a comment.

Away from this aspect, yesterday's hearing was also marked by the absence of Jean Marie Atangana Mebara's Council. Me Alice Nkom was also not seen in court. Asked about this, the former SGPR replied that "in her letter of incorporation, his lawyer had indicated that she had prior commitments that would keep her out of Cameroon until 15 August."

The accused has requested a further postponement of the hearing. The request was granted by collegiality. The case was adjourned to August 17 at TCS.

Former SGPR was prosecuted for misappropriation of public funds, as part of the failed acquisition of an aircraft to convey the head of state on his state visits. He was co-accused with Jerome Mendouga, former Ambassador of Cameroon to the United States, now deceased.
