After 17 years in prison,Titus Edzoa renews his identification papers

Former Secretary General of the Presidency of the Republic of Cameroon, Titus Edzoa after spending 17 years in prison, has made new identity card and a new passport.

Titus who now enjoys visits at home and also sees the sky and watch the sunset since his release on February 24.

The last identity card used by the former inmate expired way back in 1997 and get a new passport after his passport was withdrawn on April 22, 1997, a few days before his arrest.

In each of the process taken by Titus to renew his documents, he benefited all respects from competent authorities, including the police. Moreover, it does not take long to regain possession of these different documents. After 17 years in prison, Titus Edzoa slowly returns to a normal citizen alongside his wife and their children.

On April 20, 1997 Titus Edzoa resigns from government as Minister of Health and announced his candidacy for the October presidential election of that year.

On July 3, 1997, Titus Edzoa was arrested at his home by members of Gso. He is accused of embezzling FCFA 350 million representing Stabex. On October 3, 1997, Edzoa Titus was sentenced to 15 years in prison with his co-accused Michel Thierry Atangana.

He was charged of embezzlement of the Steering Committee and monitoring of road projects and diversion of funds from the organization of the summit of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) held in Yaoundé in 1994. The damage amounted to FCFA 61 billion according to the indictment. These complaints give rise to a second trial that opens in October 2009. Nov. 4, 2012, and Edzoa and Atangana were both sentenced to 20 years in prison.

On February 18, 2014, as a result of various pressures, the president signed a Presidential decree for the remission of sentences. Titus Edzoa and Michel Thierry Atangana benefited from this and were freed on the night of February 24, 2014.
