Abah Abah Case: Prosecution witness delays trial

This situation isn't good for former Minister of Economy and Finance, Polycarpe Abah Abah detained in Kondengui prison for embezzling public funds. At the hearing on Thursday, September 17, 2015 before the SCC, Mr. Dikum, bank executive and prosecution witness failed once again to provide historical accounts of the former Minefi.

Accordingly, the trial that has been going on in recent months as revealed by the La Nouvelle Expression newspaper in its edition of Friday, September 18, 2015, was suppose to have been over. At the material time, reports the newspaper, "Polycarpe Abah Abah, the then director of tax credit had on May 5, 2000 on the Account No. 301 807-01-S opened at the Commercial Bank of Cameroon in Yaoundé, the sum of FCFA 1,158,352,393 in respect of income tax funds."

The transferred money will instead end up in the former minister's personal account because of the similarity between the two accounts. This error on the VAT refund account was corrected. According to the newspaper, a letter from the Director General of the CBC relating to falsely recorded transactions on the account of Abah Abah, Tax Director was sent the same day.

"Having realized the error, we unilaterally and corrected the writings initially recorded on your personal account by debiting the account and refunding the VAT and under the appropriate date to avoid being in any way involved with the signature of the State and the Director of Taxes," said the director of the CBC in his correspondence.

The closed incident is a denunciation of the Honourable Peter William Mandio, former editor of the periodic " Le Front indépendant," which revived the case. And yet, the paper recalls that the national representation before June 30, 2001, the Minister of Finance and Economy, Michel Meva'a Meboutou asserted that "there has been no embezzlement or administrative complaint or fault committed by Abah Abah, director of taxes."

Yet still, Polycarpe Abah Abah is on trial for this case at the Special Criminal Court. The next hearing is set for October 2, 2015.
