AFCON 2016: Effective works begin

Effective work has been launched at several sites, including the military stadium in Yaounde, on the two annexes of the Omnisports Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium and Limbe late last week.

In order to host the Women's AFCON 2016, in good conditions, Cameroon has embarked on a vast construction site and rehabilitation of sports facilities.

According to MINSEP, almost all contracts for the completion of further work of the newly built stadiums and rehabilitation of existing ones were launched.

A timetable for achieving the client work has been developed and an inter-ministerial committee monitoring the work put in place. On several sites, work has physically started.

The Yaounde Omnisports stadium

The day after the final of the Cup of Cameroon in football, the successful companies that won the contract started work immediately. The panels relating to the work are already visible and in highly advanced studies.

The excavation started on the lawn while, for the other lots, companies are in the installation phase.

"Work on the infrastructure begins in January. They are dependent on certain studies and preliminary demolition and rehabilitation," said the owner.

The military stadium and related annex fields 1 and 2 of Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium.

Here, companies are installed and have already begun demolitions. Allowances were paid for the work and the necessary equipment is in transit. The client reported that they are still some administrative difficulties, particularly regarding the deposit of securities by companies carrying out the work; formulation and concrete trial tests; the routing of specific equipment for turf; the presentation of the Memorandum of Understanding for the material recovered from the annexes land.

The Limbe stadium

According to the project owner, some preparations hinder the early developments related to the stadium. In particular, delivery platforms for Annex stadium, parking lots, etc. For now, only the work on the roof and equipment can move forward. However, studies for earthmoving said platforms are made. It should also adjust to faster power problems of water and electricity to the stadium.

Buea and Limbe training grounds

At the Centenary stadium and the CDC Middle farm stadium in Limbe, companies must update their administrative status, among others, on insurance and guarantees. Studies of the sites were conducted and management plans were handled.

Regarding the CDC, the demolition has already begun. On the side of Buea, with the Molyko Stadium and the Municipal stadium, the phases of studies are also completed.
