ADPA espresses interest in Cameroon

A delegation of members of the Association of African Diamond Producing Countries (ADPA) has just arrived in Yaoundé, the Cameroonian capital.

"We are in Cameroon to understand how the diamond industry is organized, but especially to offer the experience of other diamond producing countries in order to monetize this resource," said Edgar Diogo Carvalho, the Executive Secretary of the ADPA.

During the audience granted to these diamond experts by the Cameroonian Minister of Mines, Emmanuel Bonde, he stated that public authorities must work (the reason Cameroon joined the ranks of the association) and whose main task is controlling the diamond market on the continent. This is to ensure that the holding is more beneficial than detrimental to producing countries.

With an estimated production of about 3000 carats in 2014, Cameroon, a member of the Kimberley Process since 2012, is still a ‘newbie’ in terms of diamond production but the country is full of enormous potential.

A world class deposit was discovered some years ago by the Coreo-Cameroon joint venture, C & K Mining in Mobilong, Eastern Region.
