A leader of the Nigerian Islamic sect, Boko Haram, was arrested and transported aboard a C130 Hercules aircraft by the Cameroonian army to Yaounde from Maroua in the Far North region on Wednesday.

The man whose identity was not revealed but believed to be one of the lieutenants of the jihad movement and the right arm man of its leader, Chekau Abubakar, was escorted by officers of the Direction Générale de la Recherche Extérieure (DGRE).

He was arrested a few days earlier by officials of the Rapid Intervention Brigade (BIR), an elite unit of the defense forces on the front line located at the border shared with Nigeria; where the sect regularly carried out attacks against Cameroonian localities.
